I finally make a plan to upgrade my domino server from 6.5 to 7.
Time to do some preparation and information, google is my first choice, and domino forum is my second choice.
Documentation’s on How to Upgrade Domino 6 to Domino 7 ?
First, find and learn some documentation’s.
Make a simple query in google, “upgrading domino 7” give me a huge list.
The first one in the list is “Five tips for simple domino 7 upgrade” at . But when I want to try read the document, It say I have to register first. So, I passed.
Why people need to be registered only because they want to read some articles is beyond me. If you want to post something (like in the forum) than you have to be registered it’s very understandable, but just to read you need to be registered? Not for me.
My second stop is Alan Lepofsky’s blog . It have many information’s that I need for my upgrade. There, one blog with all the links to all resources that I need, and I don’t need to be registered first just to read it. That’s the way it should be. Thanks.
Software Compatibility with Lotus Domino 7.
Second, software compatibility.
Before the upgrade, I need to be sure that every software that I own will be compatible with Lotus Domino 7 . That includes SameTime, Brightstor Arcserve R11.1, and Symantec Antivirus/Filtering for Domino v3.1.
My biggest concern is about SameTime server. I did domino upgrade many times since version 4.11 without a problem, but this is the first time that I do with SameTime server. Will it become a problem? I’m not sure.
In Domino’s forum I found two threads that interested me, one is in here and the other one is in here .
So I better upgrade the SameTime to the same level.
What about backup software?
For backup, I’m using Brightstor Arcserve R11.1, after a few search in the domino forum and google, I found this document .
So, backup software should be fine.
And Anti Virus?
For anti virus, I still running Symantec anti virus/filtering for domino v3.1, works well so far with Lotus Domino 6.5. I had a doubt whetter it support the domino 7, but this document clear thing out.
I uses Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Domino for secondary anti virus, because mostly all the viruses coming from the internet should be detected at smtp server by MailScanner + ClamAV. So Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Domino just second level of defend for viruses, but is good to have one. (just incase a few viruses slip away from MailScanner + ClamAV).
So, now everything are cover up and should ne nothing to worry about :-).
Time to check the schedule.
